And the angels wept, watching in despair,

At the trials we were all forced to bear.

And the angels wept, reporting to the Lord,

But alas, He did not speak a word.

Children sang in chorus, old ladies knelt in prayer:

“We can no longer endure this pain, nor stay”

They trampled us with boots, they even shot at us,

But in heaven, our cries were not heard. Alas.

Yet we will not surrender; we cannot turn away,

Not without an answer to our fervent prayer.

We wait for the day, when the sun at last begins to rise,

And in freedom’s light, our God will stand with us.
